A hand-coded site. Hosting is free and there are no platform fees, so your only ongoing cost is the domain, about $10 a year. The files are yours, and if you ever want to move the site elsewhere I hand it over and help with the switch. They are good for getting a first site up in an afternoon. They become a problem when the site matters: the monthly fee never ends, page speed is out of your control, and your content lives inside their editor. If you are past the first-site stage, moving is usually cheaper within two years than staying.
